Auto Oriented Street Vs. Pedestrian Oriented Street

Walking culture: how far are you willing to walk? How easy to access buildings on foot?

.

New York City is available to access agglomeration of approximately 6,000 buildings but if you are in Indianapolis it’s only about 900 buildings within 1000m walk range or about a 15-minute walk.

The gravity metrics differ by city environments or demographics.

4-Step Travel Demand Modeling Progress

Step 1: Trip Generation — How many trips are generated? (Estimate the number of trips that are generated)

Step 2: Trip Distribution — Where do trips go? (O-D chart)

Step 3: Mode Choice /Split— What travel mode is used for each trip? (Type of mode choice, e.g. bus, train, subway, walk, bicycle, etc.…)

Step 4: Trip Assignment — What is the route of each trip? (Determine the routes for travelers to reach their destinations)
