Weights in Transportation Geography
More Attractiveness or Deviation in Spatial Network
Network weight
Network weights use the degree of ‘friction of distance’ to define the attraction and deviation (falloff, deterrence) at a given node/area/place in the spatial network. This helps to specify opportunities with different weights to adjust the cost/time of travel.
Origin weight
The representative of available opportunities for origins to generate travel within a given radius, such as number of jobs, number of people, disposable income, and gross floor area of a building, or other variables.
Destination weight
Measures the utility of a destination, such as the attractiveness of a destination compared to other destinations — total building size, sales volume, store area, and transit service for passengers.
